We have been monitoring the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related restrictions imposed by the authorities throughout the spring. In accordance with the current policy of the Finnish Government, all gatherings of more than 500 people are prohibited until at least 31 July 2020, and from the beginning of June the restriction on gatherings of 50 people is in force until further notice. The guidelines of the International Triathlon Union also impose significant restrictive measures on the organization of a triathlon event to ensure safety of the athletes and the volunteers.
The safety of athletes, volunteers and the spectators is extremely important to us. We have come to the unfortunate conclusion that, under the current circumstances, it is not possible to organize the event safely. We will have to postpone the Challenge Turku event for a year, and the new race weekend is 31 July – 1 August 2021. Challenge Turku wil host next year also the Middle-Distance National Championship race.
Everyone who registered for the Challenge Turku event this year has the right to participate in the 2021 event free of charge. All the athletes will receive detailed instructions by email.
We deeply regret the situation and the disappointment.
